Hesperia: Huge cats out of Hesperia Lake

BY MIKE STEVENS/WON Staff Writer Published: Sep 05, 2019

HESPERIA — The double-digit catfish streak has entered its third week at Hesperia Lake, and they keep getting bigger.

THIS 16-POUND CATFISH caught by Benny Kilgore was one of two double-digit cats recently caught at Hesperia Lake, where the double-digit streak has entered its third week.

This time around, the beast on the list was a monstrous 16-pound catfish caught by Fontana angler Bennie Kilgore who soaked a shrimp by the East Shore. The second cat over 10 was nabbed by Mario Meza of Hesperia who stuck a 12 pounder on a hunk of mackerel near the Drain. Victorville angler Roy Jackson used nightcrawlers on the East Shore for a 5-fish limit anchored by a 5-pound kicker.

Fishing has been good overall thanks to weekly stocks that primarily consist of 2 to 3 pounders with some 4- to 5-pound models in there along with these trophies. The East Shore, Finger and Drain have been the hot spots, but at this point, there are plenty of these channel cats spread throughout the lake. Days are getting into the hundreds, so be prepared for hot weather, and wind has been a factor at times.
