LAKE ELSINORE — As I drove up to the Tackle Shop to meet my pal William Johnson for a day of “Kittie” fishing, I heard someone yelling at me from the shore. It was Johnson and when I started to walk towards him he hollered, “Turn around and don’t look until I tell you,” When I did look there was Johnson holding a 10-pound wiper that he had just caught while fishing for crappie from the shore. Son of a biscuit. This guy just can’t miss. He was fishing for crappie from the shore in about 6 feet of water using a crappie jig and bam, the wiper hits. The crappie bite is still on and the whiskerfish and bass are starting to show in bigger numbers. Now the wipers are on the bite. Most or all of this action can be attributed to the incredible numbers of shad moving in the lake right now. The shad are everywhere. You can literally take your net, cast in about two feet from shore and net enough shad to last you the day. If you are fishing jigs, cranks, or soft plastics — pick a shad color and you are most likely going to get bit.Give Johnson a call (951-642-0640) before you come and he will give you the latest info on the bite and a heads up on what you will want to bring. ![]() WILLIAM JOHNSON with his Lake Elsinore wiper. |
