Year End Yellowtail Charter Dec 19th 2014

New in 2015 - The Inaugural WON San Diego Offshore Jackpot!
Light loads, great boats and big money make this July 1 tournament a one-of-a-kind event in San Diego you won’t want to miss

SAN DIEGO — With the final touches made just in time for Fred Hall fever, Western Outdoor News is proud to announce the inaugural WON San Diego Offshore Jackpot.

In the tradition of the charter boat derbies of years long gone, this overnight one-day offshore tournament will reignite the rivalry at H&M Landing and test the prowess of captain, crew and anglers alike with some serious competitive flair. The event will kick off the season for the charter boats Ranger 85, Constitution, and the Coral Sea following their voyage down to H&M Landing, where a 9 p.m. sharp departure on June 30 will herald the start of the excitement.

Each boat will haul out to the battleground where they will fish for tuna (any species), yellowtail, dorado, and the ever coveted opah on July 1. All boats will return to H&M by 7 p.m. that day for weigh in, raffle drawings, and the cash awards. Captains Alex Edwards, Dustin Tench and Robby Gray will be in a heated competition for top honors putting tournament anglers on schools of gamefish offshore. The winning team of boat/captain/angler will be immortalized on an engraved perpetual trophy until the next year’s winner usurps their title.

The tournament structure is simple, a $20 jackpot buy-in is included in the ticket price for each angler, and that sum will be split up between the top 3 heaviest fish, across the three different boats. Assuming full boats, the total jackpot will be $1,400, with $800 for first place overall, $400 for second, and $200 for third. On top of that jackpot money, a growing list of sponsors has already come onboard.

At check in each angler will receive a goody bag that already has spools of Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon leader and packs of Trokar hooks. The retail value of these products already exceeds $50, and there is more to come. On top of that, the largest fish on each boat respectively will win a pair of Costa sunglasses so they can fish in style; The largest of each species overall will win an Okuma Cortez reel.

Each boat will take a limited load, so the available spots in this tournament will go fast. $300 per person will get you onboard one of these very capable boats for a chance to take home a lot of money and some truly great prizes (not to mention bragging rights). THE THREE-BOAT EVENT will inevitably focus on whatever is biting July 1. Maybe the dorado will be thick off San Diego and Baja again in 2015.
